Sounds of joy and laughter fill the campgrounds. Warm summer showers, cool splashes in the pool, songs sung 'round a campfire are some of the shared memories created at Camp Jotoni, located in the rural Warren, New Jersey. Sponsored by the Arc of Somerset County, Camp Jotoni is a day and residential camp for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Campers are ages five to adult. Set on 15 acres in Somerset County, the camp features a junior Olympic size pool, cabins, dining hall, playgrounds, open air pavilions, unspoiled woods, and wildlife.

Programs

Camp Jotoni provides summer recreational services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Our programs consist of a seven-week day camp program, a residential program, and three weeks of extended summer day camp for Somerset and Union counties school age residents only.

Day Camp

Camp Jotoni operates a seven-week day camp program for children and adults with disabilities. Day camp hours are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Transportation provided at centralized locations within Somerset County limits only. Extended hours are available for an additional fee.

Residential Camp Camp

Camp Jotoni operates a residential program that allows campers to experience all the fun of a sleep-away camp. Campers reside in cabins according to age and gender.

Extended Summer Camp

Camp Jotoni is the only camp in Somerset County to provide a full summer of service to campers and their families. The last day of our extended summer program is the Friday before Labor Day. This program is open to school age children, 5-21 years old, living in Somerset County and to campers in other counties with approval from their DDD case manager.

Daily Activities

Arts & Crafts - Music - Games - Swimming - Physical Education - Nature Walks

Campers have the opportunity to practice motor skills and develop an appreciation for their talents in each of these areas. Each program is adaptable to the needs and challenges of each camper. Social skills are an underlying theme to our program and are reinforced daily through various activities.

Administration

Camp Jotoni's administration consists of knowledgeable special education teachers. Each member of the administrative team has a minimum of four years experience at Camp Jotoni.

Counselors/Specialists

Camp Jotoni makes every effort to ensure that positions are filled with high quality, enthusiastic, and caring individuals. Most staff in these positions are college age students or teachers. Recruitment has expanded both nationally and internationally due to our website and Internet-based links to our information.

Medical Care

Our infirmary is staffed by an RN or an LPN who follows established treatment procedures authorized by a physician. Only a trained professional administers medication.

Camper to Staff Ratios

Camp Jotoni is licensed to accept 100 participants daily. A maximum ratio of four campers to one staff is not exceeded during any camp sessions. During "day camp only" sessions the ratio often intensifies to two campers with one staff personnel.

Facilities

One of five residential cabins accommodates campers with physical handicaps. Two bathhouses provide accessible bathing facilities for the campers. Meals are served in our spacious dining hall and are made in our own modern kitchen. Licensed nutritionists create menus with attention to special dietary restrictions.
