Arc acknowledges Direct Support Professionals during National DSP Week
Posted on 09/12/2011
For nearly 40 years, The Arc of Somerset County has been providing vital supports and programs to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The success of our programs can be attributed to the unfailing devotion and commitment to providing quality services by our team of Direct Support Professionals. Over 200 staff members bring their talent and commitment to our agency for the sole purpose of making a difference for those who live with a disability.
It is no surprise to the disability community how vital the role of Direct Support Professional (DSP) is. Above and beyond assistance with day to day activities, DSPs are advocates, teachers, and friends. That is why the week of September 12-16, 2011 has been designated as National Direct Support Professionals Week. This designation began in 2009 and continues to be a yearly opportunity to recognize those employees who provide the most vital and necessary services for individuals with a disability.
The value of this important work cannot be underestimated and it provides a benefit to not only those with a disability but our entire community as a whole.
On behalf of The Arc of Somerset County and the children, adults and families served, we applaud the Direct Support Professionals at The Arc of Somerset County, and throughout the nation, for their exemplary and critical work that serves and empowers individuals with disabilities, enabling them to live meaningful, productive lives within our community.
