Perhaps
you are the parent of a child who has a developmental
delay in one or more areas, or you are concerned that
your child's progress may be at risk. Or maybe you
would simply like childcare that is high quality,
caring and offers convenient hours. The Jerry Davis
Early Childhood Center is a loving and happy place
for all children to learn and grow during their formative
years.
Ensuring
Optimal Growth and Development
Families
Are Invited To Participate in Every Aspect of Childcare.
Our
mission is to ensure every child's optimal growth and
development. The Jerry Davis Early Childhood Center's
comprehensive, interdisciplinary programs are designed
to meet the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional
needs of children who have a diverse range of abilities.
These programs are staffed by dedicated professionals,
including teachers licensed and certified in both early
childhood and special education; physical, occupational,
and speech therapists; a registered nurse; a social
worker; and teacher assistants.
The
Center offers four instrumental programs. The Early
Intervention Program provides educational and therapeutic
services for infants and toddlers at home, or in an
environment that is comfortable and convenient for the
family. For children aged three months to three years,
the center has Developmental Daycare and two preschool
programs: Preschool Disabled and Private Preschool.
The Center offers inclusion opportunities for our children
with developmental disabilities with their typically
developing peers and community integration activities
in our local neighborhood.
Given
that a child's life revolves around the home, staff
members at the Jerry Davis Early Childhood Center invite
families to participate in every aspect of childcare.
To accommodate parents' busy schedules, the center offers
preschool from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and daycare, from 7:
00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Also available are flexible and
extended hours, parent support groups, and family support
services.
When
searching for quality childcare, remember the four x's:
professional expertise, reasonable expense, decades
of experience, and lots of extras. We at the Jerry Davis
Early Childhood Center are here to assist you.

Who
Was Jerry Davis?
The
last child in a family of 12, a tiny infant from Newark,
New Jersey, Jerry Davis was diagnosed with Down Syndrome.
He was placed in a foster home and referred by the Division
of Youth and Family Services to the preschool program
at The Arc of Somerset County. When he was just 18 months
old, Jerry died suddenly in his home.
In
1976, Arc staff members remembered Jerry when they were
considering various names for a newly founded childcare
center. Rather than name the center after a benefactor,
as do many prestigious organizations, they honored tiny
Jerry Davis. Virtually forgotten in life and little
mourned in death, the child's life found new meaning
through the devotion of Arc staff members.
Since
then, thousands of children have been taught, supported,
and loved by the ever-expanding Jerry Davis Early Childhood
Center. While Jerry's life was brief, his name has become
synonymous with love, dedication, and a future of infinite
possibilities for children who have special needs.
