VOLUNTEERS KEEP THE BLAZE
ALIVE
Twenty-six years ago, a small
group of volunteers formed The Association for Retarded
Children of Somerset County. Many were parents of children
with disabilities, some were policy makers in local government,
others were simply concerned citizens. They did it all:
incorporated the agency, procured facilities, hired staff,
and helped develop the programs. In those early days,
the agency served twelve children in one special facility.
Today, The Arc serves
over eight-hundred children, adults, and their families
in more than twenty locations. Our specialized programs
assist people with developmental disabilities to become
fully-included members of their communities, at home,
at work, and at play. A powerful, enlightening blaze
was lit by a spark in 1972.
But that initial spark
didn't disappear. It continues as the fuel that stokes
the flames, and there isn't a single person served by
The Arc who hasn't somehow benefited from the gift.
The opportunities of today's
volunteers to make a difference through The Arc are
virtually limitless.
To review some of the activities
available to our Volunteers please see the section on
Volunteer Opportunities!
To join The Arc family, give us a call at (908) 725-8544
and ask to speak with our Director of Development. She
can provide a brief overview of opportunities available
and will send you a volunteer application, which includes
a survey of your skills and interests. This will help
to pick the place that best suits you.
You can also fill out the
Volunteer Application on-line. Click here to be brought
