Dear Friends and Families of The Arc of Somerset County,

How easy is it to make friends as an adult? Fancy the idea of attending a party where no one knows you?

Nicole met The Arc of Somerset County just a few days before Halloween 2024. Living just down the road from a day program, she had been spending time with her mother, who now required additional care and would be out of the family home for much of the day. With the help of family members, Nicole met with Arc leadership, hoping to start her journey toward services – but what did that even mean? 

For Nicole, it meant guest attendance at the agency’s upcoming Monster Mashup Halloween Party to meet consumers, family members, and our staff. To see what it meant for her. One year later, Nicole reports on the goings on from Dayhab to her family. She continues to meet new people and, of course, joined with her fellow heroes as Wonder Woman at this year’s Halloween party.

So many successes begin with caution, uncertainty – a leap of faith to try new things. Supported, encouraged and reassured, our consumers so often surprise us and, most importantly, themselves in new social spheres and activities. These are the wins and relationships we work to create.

At the Arc of Somerset County, supported recreation and arts programming, which prioritizes expression at all levels, while providing physical activity, is one of the most popular program elements we provide. It means access to new allies in community teachers, new experiences shared with friends, newly uncovered skills, aspirations, and louder voices. Simply, like for Nicole, it means new friends and new opportunities.

We have set a goal of $30,000 to fund two full years of engagement for nearly 250 participants accessing over 100 hours of professional instruction, recreational opportunities, and social gatherings each year.

·      Your $100 gift will provide one art or music therapy class

·      Your $500 gift will provide seven yoga classes

·      Your $1,000 gift will provide ten dance classes

·      Your $5,000 gift will provide 50 group music and movement classes
